new beginnings...

blogging... i guess everyone is doing it.  so here i am, jumping on the bandwagon.
i want to use this space to share with you my journey in the world of cooking, growing and searching.

the first raison d'etre for this blog is to give me an outlet to talk about cooking.  you see, i love cooking.  love, love, love it.  my husband points out that i spend about 80% of my life either thinking about food, making food or eating food.  and he's right.  food comforts us, food connects us with family and friends, food nourishes us.  so, it ain't a bad way to spend so much of my energy, in my estimation.

the growing aspect of this blog is related to gardening.  my passion for cooking has become more and more connected to the local food movement.  as such, i've started three of my own plots, scattered around the neighbourhood, growing beets, kale, chard, carrots, onions (not terribly successfully... damn that cat!), arugula, romaine, hot peppers and, oh yes, garlic.  i love seeing how we can reclaim these few square feet of urban space to garden and in the process to relax our souls, nourish ourselves and connect with neighbours.  as another famous foodie says, its a good thing.

then, there's the searching side to this blog.  this is intrinsically connected to the other two.  ultimately, at the heart of my love of cooking at gardening is a desire to create.  i'm on the cusp of a change in my professional life, but the thing is, how do you move forward?  i've got passion, but what to do with it?  i've always had dozens of entrepreneurial thoughts floating about in my mind, but having a clear plan of just how to proceed is often difficult.  and getting the courage to take that leap of faith, to trust your gut, to go for it... that's even harder.  sometimes, to get to that new destination takes baby steps.  this blog is one of those tiny movements forward.  my hope is that through this blog, as i journal about cooking, gardening and searching, the next step that will lead to my destination will become clear.  but that first step, the very first one, is often the scariest of them all.  sometimes, you have to just close your eyes... and jump.

so, here i am, blogging bandwagon and all... jump.
